Benjamin Bass
Benjamin Bass (they/them) is a contractor, artist, educator, and the owner of Rainbow Renovation.
My journey into the trades was an unexpected one. My background is in acting, and in 2020 I had booked a major role for a national tour across southern China. Unfortunately I never ended up leaving the States due to COVID-19 and the whole production was shut down. I was left unemployed, financially struggling, and seeking solutions to keep the roof over my head. paths. The opportunity to join a full-time hardscape company led to two years of invaluable and life-changing experience. Our outdoor season was committed to back-breaking, but highly skilled labor, while the indoor seasons focused on rental renovations. Eventually I decided to commit to a singular trade and sought out opportunities where I could further develop my passion for carpentry. I studied under master carpenter Chris Hamilton for a 20-month full-time apprenticeship before deciding to launch Rainbow Renovation.
There were so many incredible skills I learned in my training, but I also witnessed interactions and experiences in the general world of contracting that made me feel deeply uncomfortable. As a queer, gender-non-conforming person I'm deeply passionate about the safety, respect, and inclusivity of others. Rainbow Renovations is trying to do things differently. Our commitment to excellence goes beyond the tangible solutions we leave behind, we wish to foster experiences that prioritize and celebrate the very clients we work with. We might be new. But we're here to stay.
